Remember the Bishop who was mugged? Apparently no such thing happened. Turns out he bumped into something while drunk.
He claims not to remember a thing, though. Smart move.
Maybe my faith in the nation’s criminals is now restored. No-one would really mug a bishop, right?

My initially reaction to this story was ‘Hilarious!!’…….but you know what, it isn’t funny at all. In a time when some of us are doing our best to return some level of spirituality to society this kind of behaviour is not what we need. If he wanted to be a leader of men and stumble around the street drunk he should have become a politician not a man of God…….

Good point, Morag. Perhaps I am cynical for not expecting any better from our bishops.

My reaction is that he was drunk when he was mugged. Bel, you may be interested in my blogfocus this time round, by the way.

OK, I’ll go check it out. Thanks for alerting me.
I doubt he was mugged. The personal items that were reported missing were found by the people who saw him being drunk. He had left them behind somewhere.

I feel a little sorry for him. We all make mistakes, he should be judged on the basis on his reaction to this incident.
Oh and Bel, muggers will attack anyone. My aunt is a nun in Dublin and muggers congregate in the convent’s area because they know there are easy pickings there.

I agree, Louise. I feel sorry for the poor bishop. If there is anything this story tells us, it is that there is still (at least) one group in society from whom we will not tolerate public drunkenness.
There is therefore still hope for society.
I must say I am shocked at the thought of people mugging nuns. That is dreadful. One would have thought that, if nothing else, superstitious fear would have stopped a mugger attacking a nun.
