while waiting i thought i’d peruse the bbc that bastion of morality and impartiality. There is the story of how they can now make sperm from bone marrow with the eliinating the need for a father and a bunch of non stories - with such an absence of scandal one has to ask are the politicians all on holiday or are they like bel, working too hard.
“There is the story of how they can now make sperm from bone marrow” - stepping aside the question, “why would anyone want to?”. It’s not exactly a scarce commodity.
I forgot to mention that I never comment on any thread on which the axe murderer of an old lady (Shit House Lawyer)has commented previously, except if there’s a cordon sanitaire of at least four other posts.
Vera Tittty: You are lying and being very stupid and childish again. And, contaminating someone else’s blog again. Not by being there but in what you say. I don’t think bel will appreciate your unsavoury conduct here.
Tyger, while disputing that a reluctance to engage with an unrepentant murderer can be defined as “partisan nonsense”, I do nevertheless take your point.
Who Bel allows onto her civilised, intelligent site is her business alone. I, at the same time, do not wish to be put in a position of having the duty, as a fellow guest, to be courteous to someone who not only committed a murderous assault on an old lady, but has shown no remorse and is so insensitive to the meaning of justice that he is now campaigning for prisoners, who are being punished for assaults against society, to have votes. And someone, moreover, who descends to crude insults and obscenities.
Therefore, sadly (for me), but as a courtesy to Bel and her site, as I don’t wish to share the air with this individual, I will be staying away from Bel Today henceforth.
Verity, you are the epitome of a fine English lady. I can see from your comment that you are one in a million: by that I mean that you are the only perfect sin free person on this earth. I do hope that your past is squeaky clean. As a very famous man once said “Let he without sin cast the first stone”
Very easy to attempt to rip into another person in a comment box, not so easy to do it face to face. Have you the courage of your convictions?
Oh and by the way, please shut the door on your way out.
Hello everybody, thank you for all your comments while I was away.
Some interesting views here.
About jailhouse lawyer. I know some people are upset to find him posting here, given his history. I have thought long and hard about this, and here is my opinion:
What jailhouse lawyer did was wrong. It was a despicable and wicked thing, for which he was rightly punished. The fact that he has not outwardly shown any remorse makes it worse. I say ‘outwardly’, for who knows what goes on in a man’s heart? We all know that the way we behave outwardly many times has nothing to do with our true feelings. However, if he is really without remorse, whether inwardly or outwardly, that is between him, his conscience and his God. To have such a thing on one’s conscience is well and truly punishment.
Anyway, about this blog. It would be the simplest thing in the world to ban jailhouse lawyer from visiting. It is not a ‘freedom of speech’ issue. It is my blog, and everyone who speaks here does so with my permission, or not at all. However, as my regular readers know, I am a Christian first and foremost, and I try to make my decisions based on that. Having thought about it, I am far from convinced that banning him from coming here, solely on the basis of what he has done, is the Christian thing to do. This would amount to closing my ears to what someone has to say on the sole ground that he has had a wicked past. I don’t think my conscience would allow me to do that. If jailhouse lawyer has something positive to contribute, and he abides by the rules of this blog, he is welcome to visit, same as everyone else.
Some of you may disagree, and I understand that, but I hope you will also understand that I have to do what feels right for my conscience. At the moment, this is how I feel. Maybe if I reconsider, my opinion could change. Who knows?
Verity, I understand your feelings, as I also had to think deeply about whether to allow jailhouse lawyer to comment here. I value your contributions to this blog, and it would be a pity if you left. I would be grateful if you would reconsider your decision. Similarly, I would understand if you felt unable to do so.
I would like to offer some support for Bel’s viewpoint. As a christian myself, I can see where she is coming from with this. For what it may be worth, I will continue to visit here.
Jailhouse lawyer is a regular visitor and commenter on Iain Dale’s blog. Newmania and Verity, why don’t I see you threatening to boycott that blog? Why only Bel?
Dave: Good point. They did the same on Elle Seymour’s blog. Newmania does not have a conscience otherwise he would be feeling guilty now about his attempt at blog blackmail.
I cannot know if you have made the correct decision but it is yours to make and I respect that decision. I would be disappointed if others felt the need to leave but that too is their decision.
If this were my blog I would have made the same decision as you have.
Bel
you are being disingenuous, I and others know full well that you do not want that piece of filth JHL on your blog, however , if thats the kind of company you like to keep …….
The hitch, Bel may not want jailhouselawyer on her blog, but from what I read of her explanation, it is not so much what she wants or does not want that has led her to this decision. It is more to do with what she feels she should do. Surely you can understand that.
Hey ..I`m flattered anyone thinks I matter a sod.I do not wish to ineract with JHL and I would request that he stops posting about me and abusing me at my site ( and his i gather although i haven. I would have ignored him but it became difficult and this is a bit of a personal space to keep out of his way.
newmania: Why should I excuse your gibberish? From what I can see it’s all gibberish coming from you. First, you should respect others before demanding respect for yourself. And attacking other people on other people’s blogs is not the way to earn respect is it?
Thank you everyone for your comments. I appreciate the messages of support and encouragement, and I understand the comments disagreeing with my view. I don’t agree with the comment accusing me of being disingenuous, in fact, I think it rather unfair. As a response to that comment, Dave (comment 24) has managed to put into words what I was thinking. I will not add anything more to his comment, as it reflects my views exactly.
The whole point of blogging for me is to give my opinion and hear what others have to say. I didn’t anticipate making a difficult decision like the one I have now made. I respect all your views, and I understand the strong feelings on this matter.
I hope you will forgive me if I lock this post to further comments. This whole matter has not been easy for me, and I would not like to prolong it any further.
