Following the news that Gordon Brown has received the support of enough MPs to ensure that there won’t be a leadership contest after all, Sky News have taken to referring to him as ‘Prime Minister-elect’. Elect? ‘Prime Minister-nominate’, perhaps.

Mischief making, Bel?
Still, just shows how docile and fearful our MPs are. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Brown supporter, but I would have liked a contest, just so that he sets out his stall.

Don’t see what you have to be jubilant about, JL.
Yes, you’re right, I’m just mischief making. Nothing better to do. After all, I’m just a spectator, I might as well make my own entertainment.

I realize that most (if not all) people not ‘Gordon Brown’ would hate for him to write (or have any say in writing) a constitution for England, but this is one reason I think you guys need one.
The people should be able to elect the PM, regardless of what MP’s they elected in the locals. Just because person A got your vote doesn’t mean you want their candidate to be the PM.

Isn’t it a constitutional convention that the leader of the party in power is the PM?
