Social and political commentary from a conservative perspective

Peter Hain

Peter Hain on Sky News this morning arguing in favour of a Gordon Brown coronation. Apparently, Brown towers over everyone in the party and is the only choice for leader.

Interesting. I still remember a Question Time appearance by Hain in 2003, shortly after Michael Howard assumed leadership of the Conservative Party without a contest. On that occasion, Hain sneeringly ridiculed the lack of a leadership election, referring to it as a ‘Saddam Hussein-style’ election. No such words from him on this occasion.

Double standards from Peter “pitch ripper” Hain, heaven forbid.

Someone once described him as never having had a principle he couldn’t bend.

I suspect most people feel sorry for brown and dont want to kick him when he is down. He is I believe in a no win situation. If he looses the next election he will face a leadership challenge and if he wins probably also he will be oposed. Nobody want to rock the boat so he gets his 15 minutes of fame. The only thing in his favour is he wont be remembered as the prime minister that took britian into iraq.

Tut-tut Dolbyn. If this is the best you can do in defending Gordon Brown then you’re going to be in big trouble as I plan on making his life a misery from now until the last moment. If I had planned my diary I would have run just to keep him out. Don’t be fooled there’s drouble in them that hills………. :)

Am awake now - so before i get the tube into london maybe i could explain better - imagine a sinking ship, thats been staying afloat longer than it should and eventually the captain decides to jump ship. As much as you might dislike the entire crew i hope you would have a moment of compasion for the first officer. Who’d waited a lifetime for his first command and now his first and last mission, see the ship to the seabed.

Now if you want to verbaly shred people you have no further to look than some of those dreadfull people on alan sugars “aprentice”. I met alan briefly about 10 years ago and while he might not have the diplomicy to be prime minister i think he could decimate both Gordon and David.

just watching Sky News and they say the slogan for gordons election campaign is going to be “Brown for Britian” - hardly the most inspiring tag line. Am no spin doctor but i would have thought something like “GB, making britian great again” sounds better even if it leaves a dodgy taste on the tounge.
