Social and political commentary from a conservative perspective

Gordon Brown’s speech

I’ve been watching journalists fall over themselves to praise Gordon Brown’s speech, but what I haven’t heard many of them point out is that some of the problems Gordon Brown identified yesterday were in existence in 1997, since when the Labour Government has had ten years to put them right. In fact, some of the problems were actually created by this Government, a Government in which Gordon Brown has been a key player.

Much of the media seem to be suffering from some sort of amnesia - a post-Tony Blair mind-wipe, if you like. Do they not remember that this very Gordon Brown was in charge of the nation’s purse strings for the last ten years? Ironic that in this so-called age of ‘no spin politics’, Gordon Brown seems to have blinded the media with the greatest spin of all.

And another thing: this wall-to-wall fawning coverage, complete with election speculation, makes me wonder whether there’s any bad news being buried this week. Surely someone somewhere will seize the opportunity.

80 mentions of Britain and one mention of tax. Support for the Unuions and hints at redistribution. Nothing on civil Liberties , localism, and nothing to sugest that any lessons have been learnt from ten years of tax spend and target.
He makes socially Conservative noises without following them up . Do you remeber in 1984 when the girl tells Smith to follows the little rules and you can get away with the big ones. Brown has learnt this lesson , and without anyone noticing is building a base to launch a new socialist assault on the country.

    Here’s what gets me:-

    1. The council tax reduction scam. Oh, hang on, the money’s coming out of the MoD budget. The MoD can’t afford proper kit, housing or medical care and now Gordon the genius is going to take even more money away from the defence budget.

    2. Gordon’s ordered a deep clean of our filthy hospitals. Woohoo. Should a deep clean be part of a regular hospital routine?

    3. While were talking about hospitals: why do serving soldiers, sailors and airmen have to go to their local stinking NHS hospital? Why isn’t there a MoD hospital which is a centre of excellence in the treatment and care of our military?

    4. David Millitwerp says he’s been to pakistan and has been speaking to 20-30 year olds there who want to know what Britain is going after Islam. Instead of pandering to their asses, why doesn’t he tell them the problem is with radical islamists who have their world-wide HQ in Pakistan. Why doesn’t he tell them to sort their selves out?

    5. I thought guns were illegal in this country. Can someone then explain to me why the streets are awash with them and kids can buy them at will? A labour solution? How about an ABC or an ASBO kid? Unbelievable.

But most of all, Bel, I am sick of the Tories having it on a platter, al la the above, and doing and saying NOTHING.

Oh, sorry, William Hague has piped up to cry about a referendum- and David Cameron’s just been helping the pezzies in Africa and riding dog sledges in Norway. I don’t care! This election’s on a platter for the tories and they just don’t get it.

Can somebody sort their goddamn brains out and get to grips with the real problems in this country please!

I wouldn’t call it amnesia, Bel. I’d say it’s pretty deliberate. Also, how do you think - November election?

Also, congrats on your place in the Top 100.

  5. CalumCarr Says:

    Fawning - yes!

Don’t doubt bad news has slipped out - virtually unseen.

Obviously ther’s more scope for Labour to do so but it would have been a good time for the Tories to bury bad news too. They wouldn’t do such a thing, would they?

  6. Bel Says:

Calum, things couldn’t possiby get any worse for the Tories, so they have no need to bury bad news.

But the past years were all the fault of that tony man that kept gordon on a tight leach, now gordon is free to help save the country - after all GB for great britian - he seems s nice man and he doesnt do spin like the conservatives try to….

( ok so i may have over done it but one can easily see what the other view is - regardless of wether you agree with it… and the conservative party are not really doing themselves favour with DC being seen as tony wannabee)
